Worms Galactic Tactics Was Revealed as a More Tactical Take on the Series
The Gamescom 2026 reveal confirmed a PS5 release for 2027, destructible tactical battlefields, roguelike progression, and another Worms project.
The worms are back, and now they are thinking even harder before blowing everything up. Worms Galactic Tactics was revealed during Gamescom 2026’s Opening Night Live, and it is officially heading to PS5 in 2027. The game brings the series’ strategic side into an isometric 3D sci-fi setting.
The announcement followed leaks earlier in August that exposed both the game’s name and unofficial gameplay. Even so, seeing Team17 confirm the new Worms title with a debut trailer gave fans their first official look at its direction.
Worms Galactic Tactics Pushes Harder Into Strategy
Rather than sticking to the series’ usual side-on format, Galactic Tactics places players in tactical, XCOM-style battles across destructible environments. Players will command their worms around the battlefield, using careful movement and positioning while turning the terrain itself into another weapon—or another problem waiting to happen.
The game’s approach was compared to a combination of XCOM and Mario + Rabbids. That points to a more deliberate battlefield experience than the series’ usual chaotic exchanges, while still leaving room for the absurd mayhem that makes Worms recognizable.
Between missions, worms and their weapons can be upgraded. Those progression systems give Galactic Tactics a roguelike flavor, adding more long-term decisions to the familiar business of firing absurd weapons at opposing teams.
Rather than simply firing first and hoping the explosion solves everything, Galactic Tactics will ask players to plan their moves with greater care. The result could give the familiar formula a fresh tactical flavor without losing its playful personality.
Another Worms Project Is Also in Development
Team17 also indicated that a second Worms game is currently in development. It is simply titled Worms for now, and no gameplay or platform details have been shared.
