World of Warcraft’s Curse of Ula’tek Update Will Open the Coiled Isle on August 11

The Curse of Ula'tek adds the Coiled Isle, a 20-rank Zul'jarra's Forces track, Corrosive Powers, a new dungeon, three Delves, housing tools, and broad class changes before Midnight Season 2 begins on August 18.

World of Warcraft patch 12.1, titled The Curse of Ula’tek, will arrive on August 11, 2026. Blizzard’s official Curse of Ula’tek notes outline a new zone, fresh activities, story content, housing tools, interface improvements, and a sweeping class update leading into the next seasonal chapter.

Blizzard’s official Coiled Isle preview also details the zone’s rewards, currencies, vendors, and connected progression systems.

The Coiled Isle brings new activities to patch 12.1

The Coiled Isle will be the centerpiece of the update. The zone sits off the eastern coast of Zul’Aman, where Zul’jarra pursues Zul’jan while searching for a way to bring her brother and others back to Zul’Aman. The island’s cursed waters also conceal a buried history and secrets sealed beneath the zone.

Players will enter the Vaults of Atal’Utek for group activities and rotating public events that eventually lead to a boss encounter. A custom, zone-specific talent tree will provide player-power bonuses and quality-of-life perks, including ways to reduce the effects of the venom found across the island.

The zone will also feature public events, Curse Surges, Cursed Fishing, Lairs, and World Boss encounters. Curse Surges will rotate between five locations and summon rare elites. Defeating an elite unlocks the fishing activity at that location, while a local story involving the tortollan sea captain Tokka introduces players to the island’s cursed waters.

Zul’jarra’s Forces will offer 20 Renown ranks

Players will begin earning Renown with Zul’jarra’s Forces through quests in Zul’Aman, campaign progress, island activities, and support for the Amani resistance. The track can be viewed in the Adventure Guide with Shift-J, while Jan’sari the Watchful will serve as the faction’s quartermaster in Tokka’s Landing.

Jan’sari will accept Voidlight Marl and Artisan Moxies for unlocked rewards, including gear, crafting recipes, profession knowledge, pets, mounts, cosmetics, and housing decorations. The highest ranks include the Hash’ura of Zul’jarra title, the Mantle of Nalorakk, and the Axe of the Amani at rank 20. Other notable rewards include the Spirit of Tok’jara mount at rank 10, the Snek’zali companion pet at rank 12, and the Violet-Backed Skyfang at rank 19.

New Lairs, dungeon, raid, and Delves

Lairs are instanced versions of world-boss encounters with scaling difficulty up to flexible Mythic. They are designed for groups of 15 to 25 players, with a summoning stone outside each encounter. The new format gives larger groups a more structured way to tackle world-boss content, and Blizzard has outlined the system in its Lair details.

The three-boss Altar of Fangs dungeon will be available through Mythic 0 when the content update arrives. It will also support Dungeon Follower, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties. The dungeon’s bosses are Ravi, a ravenous hydra; The Writhing Coil, a powerful Child of Ula’tek; and Zul’jan, who remains under Malacrass’s influence while performing a final ritual. Altar of Fangs will enter the Mythic+ rotation when Season 2 begins one week later.

The new Venomous Abyss raid will also launch with Season 2, featuring eight boss encounters and ending with Ula’tek.

Patch 12.1 will add three Delves: The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, and the Venomfall Deeps Nemesis Delve. Bountiful Delves will open on August 18, allowing players to progress beyond Tier 7 and face the new Nemesis boss.

The Vaults of Atal’Utek will house group activities and zone talents

The Vaults of Atal’Utek are an ancient Amani complex beneath the Coiled Isle. After players unlock the area through the Into the Vaults of Atal’Utek quest for Warleader Abdumati, they can take part in Temple Patrols, Strikes, Incursions, and battles against Ancient Foes. These activities award Corrosive Souls, Trovehunter’s Bounty, Venom-Cursed Fragments, Corrosive Coins, and Renown with Zul’jarra’s Forces.

Amani Windcallers can help players navigate the Vaults, temporarily hide them from hostile creatures, and eventually provide additional travel points over the venom pools.

Altar of Corrosion talents

The Altar of Corrosion will provide exploration, combat, mobility, and reward bonuses throughout the Coiled Isle. Players will spend Corrosive Coins on its branching talent tree at the Amani Foothold, and the talents can be changed at the altar whenever needed.

The tree’s automatic top-row bonuses increase Corrosive Coin gains by 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% as players spend five, 10, 15, and 20 additional points. Other talents can reveal venom-enhanced enemies and hidden treasures, reduce damage from venom pits and venom-crazed enemies, improve movement through the Vaults, summon spiritual assistance, and create temporary safe areas.

Corrosive Powers will work across Midnight outdoor content

Players will unlock the Corrosive Codex through the questline that begins with Corrosive Gifts: Corrosive Power. Corrosive Powers are separate from the Altar of Corrosion talent tree and can be unlocked in any order using Corrosive Souls earned from Vaults activities and bosses, the Prey boss Ral’Kala, Curse Surges, the lair with Nymrissa Wavecaller, Bountiful Delves, and Prey Hunts.

After unlocking eight powers, players can activate two at once. The system works in Midnight outdoor zones and Delves, where a projection of the Altar of Corrosion will appear at the start of unlocked Delves so players can change their active combination.

The powers include offensive and defensive options such as Ophidian Maw, which can summon a snake and execute poisoned non-boss creatures below 20% health; Virulent Mucus, which grants layers that negate heavy damage; and Accursed Poison, which can immediately interrupt the next interruptible spell or ability from a poisoned target.

The Skull of Er’inye vendor will accept Corrosive Coins for additional rewards, including the Caustic Venomfang flying mount for 10,000 coins, the Corrosive Writhling and Volatile Venomfang pets for 5,000 coins each, and the Arsenal: Venom-Cursed Arms collection for 25,000 coins. The vendor will also offer armor appearances, cosmetics, recipes, and housing items.

Midnight Season 2 begins one week later

Blizzard will begin Midnight Season 2 on August 18, 2026, one week after the Curse of Ula’tek update arrives. That window will give players time to visit the Coiled Isle and work through its opening content before the seasonal activities begin. The timing was also outlined in the August 11 release plan.

Season 2 will add the Venomous Abyss raid, a new Mythic+ dungeon rotation, more Prey content, Bountiful Delves, a new PvP season, and further class and item changes. The Season 2 Prey journey begins with the A Slithering Threat questline, while Nightmare Mode returns with four serpent-themed targets and hunts across the Coiled Isle.

Nightmare Mode players will collect Ossified Relics to activate Haunted Braziers around the zone. These braziers summon Ral’kala, whose defeat provides special rewards. The Season 2 Prey Journey also offers new decor, cosmetics, and mounts. Players can collect Afflicted and Tormented Souls from Delves to speed up active Nightmare Hunts, and the Curse of the Isle feature adds a permanent Nightmare Mode toggle for a more dangerous version of the Coiled Isle.

Cursed Fishing adds a five-rank crew and new rewards

Cursed Fishing will expand the story involving Captain Tokka’s Crew with daily quests, strange artifacts, and battles against spirits from Tokka’s past. The crew progresses through five ranks, from Stranger to Bloodsworn Crew. Reaching 2,500 Midnight Anglin’ Score awards The Briny Best achievement and the Briny title.

Second Mate Sluggs at Tokka’s Folly will sell rewards using Coins, Voidlight Marl, Coiled Filament, Artisan Moxie, and crew Renown. The Sea-Dwelling Isle Serpent flying mount requires Bloodsworn Crew and costs 2,500 Coiled Filament, while the fishing tool The Coiled Huntress costs 6,000 Voidlight Marl and collects Venom while fishing around the Coiled Isle.

Housing gets blueprints, Pet Beds, and more building options

Housing receives one of the update’s largest feature additions. Blueprints will let players save and share a full house, an interior, an exterior, or a single room. Blueprint codes can be shared across regions except China, and imports will show the required rooms, decor, missing items, and budget before the layout is applied.

Players will have 50 save slots and 10 auto-save slots. Importing a blueprint will create an auto-save, while a new Export permission will let visitors import a house layout into their own slots. Blueprint codes can also be shared and inspected through chat, and players can report them.

Pet Beds will allow noncombat companion pets to live inside a house. Up to 10 beds can be placed indoors and up to five outdoors. Indoor pets can remain stationary or roam, while outdoor pets will remain stationary for now.

Houses can now reach level 12, new Artisanal Rooms can be purchased with Community Coupons, the entry room can be moved to another floor, and new dye colors will be available. Four neighborhood Endeavors will also arrive for Amani trolls, kobolds, Ohn’ahran centaurs, and tortollans.

Cooldown Manager and social tools receive a large pass

The Cooldown Manager will track trinkets, potions, and racial abilities. Players can ping action-bar abilities, Cooldown Manager entries, items, and resources such as health and mana. Healers will be able to configure which buffs appear on raid frames, while a new Group Buff Filter will provide more control over visual alerts.

World of Warcraft players will also be able to connect Battle.net and Discord accounts to exchange guild messages while outside the game. The update adds account-wide Auto Loot, persistent Auction House filters, map coordinates, more Friends List tools, and several nameplate and Edit Mode options. Raid warnings and the Loss of Control display can also be moved, while raid and party frames gain a Frame Size setting.

Patch 12.1 includes broad class and PvP changes

The class pass covers every class and includes new and redesigned talents, ability adjustments, and changes to damage and healing across multiple specializations. At max level, player health and creature damage will both increase by 25%, with health consumables adjusted to match. Blizzard is also reducing the throughput of major DPS cooldown windows for several specializations while increasing steady-state damage.

All class interrupts will now display a missed visual over the target and play a separate sound when used while the target is not casting. Diminishing-return categories will reset after 20 seconds instead of 16 seconds. The notes also include changes such as daggers becoming available to Demon Hunters, new talents for several specializations, and significant damage or healing adjustments across Death Knight, Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior specializations.

PvP changes include protection from knockbacks while affected by Fear or Disorient, a 20% reduction to healing received in Battlegrounds, revised Gladiator’s Distinction bonuses, reduced movement-speed penalties, and a one-minute queue debuff after missing a Solo Shuffle or Battleground Blitz queue. Scatter Shot is also returning as a Hunter PvP talent, while Ancient of Lore is returning for Restoration Druids.
