What the Animus Hub Adds to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

The feature combines story recaps, alternate-memory Rifts, weekly challenges, and crossover rewards shared with Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced brings back the Animus Hub with new ways to revisit the series’ story, complete challenges, unlock rewards, and uncover alternate versions of Edward Kenway’s memories. The feature is available when you launch the game, as explained in an official Steam announcement.

The Hub appears as a timeline connecting major Assassin’s Creed games. It is meant to keep story information, challenges, collectibles, and rewards in one place instead of sending players outside the game to search for extra details.

For players returning to Edward’s Caribbean adventure after a break, the Memories menu can recap recent story events. Selecting a game from the timeline also provides descriptions, trailers, and other quick background details about its setting and narrative.

Rifts Create Alternate Versions of the Story

The Animus Hub’s Rifts return with a new format in Black Flag Resynced. These scenarios are presented by EGO, the mysterious AI introduced in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and ask players to investigate alternate versions of genetic memories.

That includes questions such as what might have happened if Edward had honored his promise to Caroline instead of becoming a pirate and Assassin, or if Blackbeard had accepted the King’s pardon. The Hub does not simply present these scenarios as lore entries. Players enter the Rifts themselves, where altered environments, unusual gameplay situations, and difficult boss encounters await.

Challenges, Projects, and Shared Rewards

The Hub also tracks several types of objectives through Synchronization. These include character goals, story-related tasks, and challenges created specifically for the Hub. Completing them unlocks rewards that can be collected from the Hub screen.

Projects group multiple challenges into larger objectives. Their Anomalies are time-limited tasks that refresh each week, giving players a reason to return and check for new activities.

Black Flag Resynced also introduces Crossover Projects, which can be completed across more than one game that supports the Animus Hub. The first two are called Riptides and Undertow. They are available in both Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Black Flag Resynced, with rewards unlocked in each game.

A New Place for Lore and Collectibles

Rewards from Rifts and Projects can include journal entries, messages, and notes between characters. These materials are stored in the Vault, where players can learn more about the Assassins, their allies, their enemies, and the worlds they inhabit. Some encrypted files remain hidden until players find and decrypt them.

Collectors can use the Hub to track outfits, weapons, skins, and other items. It also offers Hub-exclusive rewards and a currency that cannot be purchased. That currency is earned through gameplay and spent in the Exchange.

Synchronization progress provides another reward path, while Projects and Crossover Projects can unlock items inspired by the characters and worlds of the connected games. Some of those rewards are not available through other parts of the game.
