Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sold 3.5 million copies in 14 days, surpassing Ubisoft’s internal sales projection for the entire fiscal year. The remake launched in early July and has quickly become one of the publisher’s clearest recent success stories.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot described the launch as an encouraging sign for the company’s new corporate structure in its latest financial report. He also said the game had already exceeded the annual expectations set for it only two weeks after release.
“The strong launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in early July by Vantage Studios is an encouraging proof point,” Guillemot said in the report.
PC players helped drive the early success
The remake also set a new mark for the franchise on Steam. It became the first Assassin’s Creed game to pass 100,000 concurrent players on the platform, with that performance helping produce what Ubisoft called a “historical proportion” of PC sales for the series. The United States and China led that PC performance.
Ubisoft’s first-quarter financial results did not include the remake’s sales. The game arrived shortly after the start of the second quarter, meaning its impact will appear in the company’s next set of results instead. For the quarter that just ended, Ubisoft reported net bookings of €256 million, down 9% year over year and slightly above its guidance. The company attributed that result to a record showing from the mobile RPG Invincible: Guarding the Globe.
Guillemot also said Black Flag Resynced was the highest-rated Assassin’s Creed game since the original Black Flag, citing the response from players as another reason for Ubisoft’s positive outlook. The publisher’s report connected the launch with the lasting appeal of the franchise and its push to deliver higher-quality releases.
That momentum follows an earlier milestone, when the remake passed 3 million copies sold across all platforms. Ubisoft has also confirmed that a New Game Plus mode is in development, though it has not announced when that mode will arrive.
