War Thunder’s Su-15TM Will Introduce the USSR Tree’s First Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles
The Rank VI interceptor can carry only 2 R-98 missiles, including one variant that can engage targets head-on.

War Thunder’s next major update will bring the Su-15TM to the USSR’s Rank VI Sukhoi line, making it the earliest aircraft in that tree with medium-range air-to-air missiles. Gaijin’s Steam announcement describes a high-altitude interceptor that can exceed 2,200 km/h and handles especially well in vertical maneuvers.
The Su-15TM’s standout weapons are the R-98MT and R-98MR, two missile variants exclusive to the aircraft. It can carry a pair of R-98s alongside other armament, so choosing between their guidance systems will matter. The infrared-guided R-98MT has greater range than the R-60 but can lock on only from behind. The semi-active radar-guided R-98MR can engage targets head-on.
Radar and a radar warning receiver will help pilots track threats, but the aircraft has no flares or chaff. For closer engagements, it can carry R-60 missiles and 23 mm gun pods. Bombs, rockets and its 23 mm cannon also give it an unguided ground-attack option, despite its focus on interception.
Gaijin says the Su-15TM’s specifications may change before it joins the game.
