War Thunder’s Southeastern City Test Is Live in Nuclear Escalation
The test runs through October 9 at 11:00 GMT, covering Battle Ratings 8.7 to 14.7 under the mode's existing matchmaking rules.

War Thunder’s Nuclear Escalation test on the rebuilt Southeastern City map is live, putting Gaijin’s earlier plan to test the map in the mode into practice. Testing began October 7 at 11:00 GMT and will continue through October 9 at 11:00 GMT in the Events and Tournaments tab, according to the Steam announcement.
The map now uses height-map technology for more detailed terrain, with textured mountains and revised sandy and rocky shores. Forests and villages have replaced open fields in the northern area. Updated vegetation, denser ground cover, trees on mountain slopes, and adjustments to water color and weather settings round out the changes.
The trial covers the mode’s full Battle Rating range, from 8.7 to 14.7, and uses its existing matchmaking rules and brackets for setting ground AI lineups. Gaijin will use the test to judge how Nuclear Escalation plays on the smaller map and decide what to do next.
One question is whether the map’s smaller footprint will concentrate too much action at top tiers. If it does, Gaijin may consider capping the maximum mission Battle Rating.
