War Thunder’s Advance event is live, and it swaps the usual capture-flow for a more direct fight over territory. One side has to push through every point on the map, while the other side is there to stop that line cold.
The event runs from July 3 at 11:00 GMT through July 6 at 11:00 GMT in the Events and Tournaments tab. Battles take place in Arcade and Realistic Battles on Port Novorossiysk, Maginot Line, and Volokolamsk, so familiar ground gets a very different pace.
How Advance plays
Advance uses sequential objectives, which means the next point only opens after the current one is captured. The layout alternates between smaller key points and larger intermediate points, with A, C, and E taking longer to capture and B and D moving much faster.
That also changes the flow of each match. Capturing an intermediate point opens a new spawn location for the attackers and shuts down the previous one, while the defending side gets fewer places to regroup as the front line moves. Victory can come from taking the final key point, wiping out the defenders, holding the line until the mission ends, or eliminating the attacking team.
There are a few entry rules to keep in mind before you queue. Ground vehicles need a Battle Rating between 4.7 and 5.7 to enter the event queue, but vehicles from 3.7 to 5.7 can still appear in the battle itself. In Realistic Battles, ground spawns do not require Spawn Points, aircraft still do, and repeat spawns are allowed without a backup vehicle.
Gaijin has also been active with War Thunder this summer, including the Jean Bart preorder, but Advance is all about map control, timing, and forcing the other side to react.
