Valheim 1.0 Brings the Deep North and 40+ New Weapons

The full release also adds 4 armor sets, 10+ creatures, 80+ buildable pieces, new mechanics, and a redesigned save system.

Valheim 1.0 is now live, opening the Deep North and adding more than 40 weapons, new enemies, fresh building pieces, new mechanics, and much more. The full release arrived on September 9, 2026, the date Iron Gate previously set for the launch and crossplay rollout in its September 9 release announcement.

The Deep North is the centerpiece of the update. Thick snow must be cleared before building, frozen seas and ponds create new hazards, and the Jotun have begun invading Valheim. Players can also use a grappling hook to move across height differences, discover alternate versions of earlier biomes, find mysterious idols for a hidden forge, unlock new cinematics, and purchase inventory upgrades from Haldor.

The Deep North expands Valheim’s endgame

Version 1.0 adds more than 40 weapons, 4 armor sets, 2 capes, 2 trinkets, new bombs and ammunition, extra tools, and more than 10 creatures. The update also brings over 80 buildable pieces, 5 crafting-related build pieces, more than 30 crafting materials, 20 new food items, new locations, new music, new events, achievements, and upgradeable pockets.

Several system changes arrive alongside the new content. A new Draw Distance setting lets players shorten or lengthen the game simulation distance, while a redesigned save system splits world data across chunks to reduce write times and better handle failures during saving. Iron Gate also added the Magica Cloth system for capes and other cloth items, overhauled the Hammer and Serving Tray menus, improved movement animations, and upgraded the Unity engine.

Players with questions about mods or existing worlds can consult the Valheim 1.0 FAQ. Iron Gate also released a launch trailer for the full version.
