Nintendo has announced two upcoming additions to its Nintendo Switch Online Classics libraries. D-Hopper and Zero Racers will join the Virtual Boy selection on August 4, followed by Super Mario Sunshine for the Nintendo GameCube library on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 13. Access to Super Mario Sunshine will require the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass tier.
The GameCube release gives Switch 2 owners another way to play Nintendo’s 2002 platformer. Super Mario Sunshine was previously available on Switch through the now-discontinued Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. Its upcoming Classics release will place the game within the Nintendo Switch Online service instead.
Nintendo’s official Japanese announcement video presents Super Mario Sunshine in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Nintendo has not confirmed whether the Switch 2 release will include the visual and control improvements found in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars version.
Two unreleased Virtual Boy games are coming
D-Hopper and Zero Racers will expand the Virtual Boy catalog on August 4. The update will also add the previously announced option to customize the system’s screen color.
Zero Racers began development under the name G-Zero. The F-Zero spin-off was planned as the first sequel in the series and its first move into 3D. Its design introduced James McCloud and Jody Summer before both characters appeared in F-Zero X on Nintendo 64. The game was completed but never released commercially, after the Virtual Boy struggled in the market. That left Zero Racers among the unreleased games planned for Nintendo’s short-lived hardware.
D-Hopper was also developed as an unreleased Virtual Boy project under the name Dragon Hopper. Intelligent Systems, the studio behind Fire Emblem, designed the game as a Zelda-like adventure built around moving between different floors of its playfield. It was reportedly scheduled for release on August 23, 1996, but the Virtual Boy’s commercial failure led to its cancellation.
Nintendo’s Virtual Boy library on Switch Online now contains most of the system’s games. The service launched earlier in 2026 and requires a physical accessory to play the Virtual Boy titles.
The remaining games without confirmed service releases are Nester’s Funky Bowling, Panic Bomber, SD Gundam Dimension War, Space Squash, Virtual Fighting, Virtual Lab, Virtual League Baseball, and Waterworld. Several of those games use licensed properties, which may make future additions less likely.
These two August releases give the Virtual Boy library some of its rarest software, while Super Mario Sunshine brings a full GameCube adventure to Nintendo Switch 2. Tell us what you think about Nintendo’s upcoming Classics additions in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
