Subnautica 2 is still early in its run, but Unknown Worlds has already laid out the first stretch of support. The studio expects the game to remain in early access for at least two years, and the first updates are aimed at smoothing out systems, adding co-op tools, and fixing some of the rougher edges.
At a recent early access event, creative producer Scott MacDonald walked through what is coming next. The studio did not give dates for either update, so the plan is clear even if the timing is not.
For a closer look at what the game wants from your machine, see Subnautica 2 early access PC specs. The broader base-building changes are covered in Subnautica 2 base building.
Early Access 1.1 focuses on cleanup
The first update will be the lighter one of the pair. Unknown Worlds plans to improve the bio-mod system with more passive bio-mod slots, refine blight encounters, vehicle docking, and fabrication, and add extra PDA data entries. The studio also wants to adjust the voice log priority system, add a storage cache, and let players sprint inside bases.
Early Access 1.2 leans into co-op features
The second update shifts toward group play and day-to-day usability. Planned additions include HUD improvements, better base-building tools, a pinned recipes system with color cues for missing materials, proximity voice chat, player emotes, a revive system, and avatar customization options.
After those two updates, MacDonald said Unknown Worlds wants to widen the world with new biomes, creatures, leviathans, resources, tools, and a new vehicle. The team also plans to add the second chapter of the story in a later update.
That outline matches the Subnautica 2 Steam page, which points to larger major updates later on.
