Subnautica 2 Starts a Dev Vlog Series Ahead of Its Next Major Update
The first episode previews a dark new region, expanded story content, new creatures, and changes to the Tadpole and its dash ability.

Unknown Worlds has begun the lead-up to Subnautica 2‘s next major content update with the first video in a new developer-vlog series. Creative Director Anthony Gallegos introduces the series in a Steam announcement, saying future episodes will feature more of the team and offer sneak peeks at what’s ahead.
The update, called Early Access 2.0, will be the game’s biggest since it entered Early Access in May 2026, according to Unknown Worlds. It will add a complete new playable region with several biomes, more story about the Cicada’s colonists and the game’s other beings, and new creatures. Gallegos described the region as dark and threatening, while still beautiful.
New gadgets and biomods are also planned. The Collector Leviathan’s behavior will change to make it scarier, though the specific adjustments were not described.
The Tadpole will gain a frog chassis with arms and legs. Dash will become a built-in fin ability instead of a biomod, so using it will no longer take up an active biomod slot.
Players can share ideas and upvote suggestions on the Subnautica 2 feedback board.
