Starfield Has a Future After All as Bethesda Confirms Year 3 Plans

Bethesda said more stories, gameplay improvements, updates, and new Starborn content are planned after the RPG surpassed 17 million players.

Bethesda has reassured Starfield players that the space RPG still has a place in the studio’s plans. In an official post on Bethesda Game Studios’ X account, the developer said the game will continue into its third year with more stories, gameplay improvements, and updates.

The message arrived after sweeping cuts across Xbox’s studio portfolio left fans wondering whether Bethesda would narrow its focus to franchises such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Starfield was not named as a casualty, but the lack of a clear update had caused concern among its community.

Bethesda’s latest statement offered a much clearer picture. The studio said more than 17 million players have played Starfield, logging close to one billion hours in total. It also said that over 40% of players have used Creations to customize their experience.

What Bethesda has planned for Year 3

As Starfield enters Year 3, Bethesda says it will keep adding stories to the Settled Systems alongside targeted gameplay improvements and further updates. The studio is also preparing new Starborn content, which is planned for release in 2027.

Bethesda also pointed to continued support for creators. With a large portion of the player base already using Creations, the studio said it would keep investing in creators and give players more ways to personalize their games.

The statement did not provide release dates or details for the upcoming stories, gameplay changes, updates, or Starborn content. For now, though, Bethesda has made its position clear: Starfield remains part of the studio’s plans despite the wider changes across Xbox.
