Sony will release a Midnight Black PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in Japan on Nov. 19, 2026. It is a color variant of the Japan-only model announced in November 2025, not a new worldwide version, and Sony has not announced a release outside Japan.
The tax-inclusive ¥55,000 price is about $350, and the console includes a matching Midnight Black DualSense. Preorders are scheduled to begin Oct. 20. A matching disc drive will be sold separately, with both products launching on Nov. 19. Sony’s Japanese announcement specifies that the console requires a PlayStation account set to Japan and the system language set to Japanese.

Nov. 19 is also the scheduled launch date for Grand Theft Auto VI. PlayStation has set that date for its two GTA VI limited-edition DualSense controllers as well.
Sony’s support page for the Japan-only PS5 says data from accounts linked to other regions will not transfer during setup. Anyone considering an import would need to account for both that limit and the Japanese account and language requirements.
Sony first announced the discounted Japan-only model in November 2025 to reach more players in the local market. In an interview with Famitsu, SIE president and CEO Hideaki Nishino said exchange-rate changes had led to PS5 consoles being exported from Japan, and that the lower-priced model was intended to serve Japanese customers.
Players in Western markets can get a similar look with Midnight Black console covers for PS5 Slim, priced at $54/£45. The panels attach to an existing PS5 Slim, while a matching DualSense is sold separately. Sony does not offer them together as a console package there.
