Sony is reportedly pulling back from first-party single-player PC ports after concluding the returns were not strong enough. The latest discussion around the company’s strategy points to a narrower focus for its biggest story-driven PlayStation releases.
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier wrote on ResetEra that PS Studios boss Hermen Hulst told staff Sony’s single-player narrative games would stay PlayStation-only. In that account, the PC versions were described as inconsistent, underperforming, and out of step with the way Sony wants to keep its IP tied to its own platform.
The reported shift also fits the long-running divide around Sony’s PC plans. Early ports such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone drew much stronger attention, while later releases like God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 did not seem to keep the same pace.
For Sony, the trade-off is clear. PC releases can stretch a game’s life and bring in new players, but the company may see more value in keeping its biggest narrative releases locked to PlayStation if the money does not justify the wider release.
