PC gamers can now rejoice as the PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement is officially off the table for first-party titles. But wait, before you grab your controller and start celebrating, there’s a catch: having that PSN account will still grant access to some pretty sweet in-game goodies.
The upcoming launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on January 30 marks this new chapter in the relationship between Sony and PC players. Now if you opt out of creating a PSN account you can still swing through New York City without restrictions. However if you want to snag some exclusive content signing up might be worthwhile.
This decision applies to titles like God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and the soon-to-be-released The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered which hits shelves on April 3, 2025.
What is the incentive behind having a PSN account? It unlocks various benefits that could make your gameplay experience more enjoyable. Let’s break down what players with accounts stand to gain:
Exclusive In-Game Benefits
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2:
- Early unlock suits: the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales’ 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarök:
- A special Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms (previously only available in New Game+).
- A resource bundle containing 500 Hacksilver and 250 XP.
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered:
- +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras.
- A skin for Ellie featuring Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered:
- A chance to wear the Nora Valiant outfit.
“Game creators at PlayStation Studios will continue to work on bringing more benefits to players who sign up for a PlayStation Network account,” commented Asad Qizilbash, SVP head of publishing for PlayStation’s studio business group. Sounds promising enough!
The Last of Us Part 2 on PC would require a PSN account, a move that stirred quite an uproar among fans who felt it unnecessary for single-player experiences. After all, multiplayer games often have those requirements, but why impose them on solo adventures? Helldivers 2? They learned quickly what’s best for us PC folks, something we appreciate!
