Riot’s new Teamfight fuse will land in 2XKO on May 12, and it has already shifted attention toward how the fighter may want to be played. The fuse is selected during character select, puts two champions on screen at the same time for seven seconds, and costs one bar of meter for each fighter.
Riot previewed the mode in a May 7 post on X (Teamfight announcement), and it has become clear that the reaction is about more than damage output. Riot has also said solo players can use Teamfight for a more improvisational style of play, but the fuse looks tailor-made for a duo. That alone is enough to make the feature feel like a statement about where the game may be heading.

The timing matters, too. Riot has already confirmed Akali and Senna as the next fighters headed to the roster, as outlined in Riot’s next steps for the roster, so Teamfight is arriving while the game is still defining its identity. For a tag fighter still trying to stake out its place, leaning harder into partner play could give it a cleaner hook.
If Teamfight lands the way Riot seems to want, it may end up doing more than shaking up a few matches. It could also tell players exactly what kind of 2XKO experience the studio wants to build around. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
