Resident Evil’s Story Could Conclude in the Next 10 Years, Not the Series

Jun Takeuchi says Resident Evil Requiem closed Capcom's first 10-year story plan, while the broader plot could conclude over the next decade.

Resident Evil’s overarching story could reach a conclusion within the next 10 years, but that would not mean Capcom plans to end the franchise. Executive producer Jun Takeuchi said Resident Evil Requiem marked the close of the company’s first 10-year story plan, with multiple titles still planned before the larger plot wraps up.

In a machine-translated Yahoo Japan interview, Takeuchi explained that Resident Evil’s story grew with each game rather than following a plan established at the beginning. Capcom began planning a 10-year story arc as work on the Resident Evil 2 remake got underway. Requiem’s release in February 2026 marked the end of that stretch, with the wider story potentially reaching its endpoint during the next decade.

The planned Resident Evil Veronica remake is one of the games Takeuchi expects to carry more weight in that story. He said players should recognize its importance to the main plot rather than treating it as a side tale. Changes to the remake’s narrative are part of Capcom’s effort to connect reimagined classics with newer entries. The Resident Evil Veronica remake is planned for 2027.

Takeuchi also said the order of the remakes has meaning for players who experience them all, but did not explain the reasoning behind Capcom’s choices. In an earlier discussion, he described groundwork for connecting remakes with newer entries as dating back to Resident Evil Village. He did not announce a specific crossover project.
