Capcom Has Been Preparing a Resident Evil Crossover Since Village
Takeuchi points to Umbrella, Spencer, and Requiem's return to Raccoon City as groundwork, but he did not announce a specific crossover project.

Capcom is thinking beyond a clean split between Resident Evil’s remakes and numbered games. Executive producer Jun Takeuchi says groundwork for an eventual crossover has been underway since Resident Evil Village, though he did not announce a specific project.
In a Japanese magazine special for Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary, Takeuchi described numbered entries as the series’ ongoing story and remakes as a way to revisit its past. He said Capcom had already begun considering how the remakes could catch up with the era of the numbered games.

Takeuchi traced the connective approach back to Resident Evil 7, where the team began adding links to older entries. Those references started as fan service, but players responded more strongly than Capcom expected and began analyzing the ideas behind them. Capcom then pushed the approach further in Village and Requiem.
Umbrella and Spencer references, along with Raccoon City’s return in Requiem, are among the examples Takeuchi cited. He also linked the idea to Requiem’s title, reading “RE” as “response” and “Q” as “question.” Takeuchi said he would explain the meaning later and that the crossover’s significance should be clear before Resident Evil reaches its 40th anniversary.
Over the past decade, Capcom has released new entries such as Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem alongside remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4. The Resident Evil Veronica remake is planned for 2027, extending that run of revisited games.
Earlier reports have also pointed to possible remakes of Resident Evil 0 and the original game. If both projects move ahead, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 would be the only numbered entries left without remakes. An April code leak suggested a possible Resident Evil 0 remake could include online co-op, but Capcom had not announced the project at the time.
Takeuchi’s comments do not confirm a Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6 remake, nor do they establish whether the crossover will be one game or a wider link between the two tracks. Capcom has announced its Resident Evil Veronica remake for 2027, but Takeuchi did not identify another remake as part of the plan.
