Phantom Blade Zero’s Best Weapons for Damage, Defense, and Control
Sanguine is an easy starting point, while other weapons trade healing, elemental control, ranged reach, and burst damage for distinct limits.

For a straightforward weapon that works from the start, choose Sanguine. Other blades trade speed, recovery, range, and crowd control for more specialized effects. Phantom Blade Zero has more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges, but Phantom Edges run on cooldown, leaving main weapons to handle most regular attacks. Soul can equip 2 main weapons, and switching between them restores Sha-Chi, so a specialist can have a useful partner in a steadier weapon.
Sanguine is a simple starting point
Soul begins with Sanguine, which pairs fast combos and generous reach with uncomplicated perks. Its level 5 perk, Chi-Infused Blade, boosts damage for 40 seconds, making it a useful early investment. The level 15 and 25 perks are less compelling, so the level 5 bonus is a good reason to try the weapon before committing to another build.
Outlaw Warblade adds staying power
Defeat the Chapter 2 boss The Outlaw to claim the Outlaw Warblade. Standard attacks restore a small, flat amount of health. Its L2 special, Bloodthirst Frenzy, can pin an enemy or boss, drain HP, and heal Soul. At level 15, Survival Shield grants 10 seconds of invincibility when triggered.
Heavy attacks spend Soul’s health and turn it into recoverable HP, so reckless swings can still leave him in danger. The weapon’s healing does not scale with maximum-health accessories, and its health-draining benefits are limited against natural, living enemies. The Chapter 3 wood-draining accessory is recommended to get the most from it.
White Serpent and Crimson Viper cover more situations
Take White Serpent & Crimson Viper from the Chapter 2 boss Bai Chilian. The pair has fast attacks, long combos, and a throwable dagger for ranged damage. Its Twin Serpent Dance can extend a combo and steadily raise its damage, keeping an enemy under pressure.
The L1 + Triangle special sends a high-damage blade spinning around Soul, even when he is not attacking. It drains Sha-Chi quickly, so relying on it while defending can leave Soul short on resources. Used with care, the pair gives you more options than a straightforward close-range weapon.
Scarlet Wraithblade controls groups at a cost
To reach the optional Chapter 1 boss Hua, go to the base of the steam tower and find the hole behind it. Drop down, slide along the broken bridges, clear the enemies in the lower area, then climb the stairs to the boss. There is no bell checkpoint on this route, so a defeat means making the trip again.
Beating Hua earns Scarlet Wraithblade, a slow two-handed sword with high damage and strong guard-breaking hits. Its spider lilies slow enemies and sap their Sha-Chi, while exploding flowers can extend combos. Those effects help control groups, but mistimed attacks can leave Soul open to retaliation.
Elemental weapons offer different kinds of control
Whiteshadow builds ice with each swing. As the buildup accumulates, it slows enemy movement, attacks, and defenses, then freezes a target when the hidden meter fills. Its Frosthowl can freeze an enemy instantly.
Baishan Stormswords build the Wind Gauge with standard attacks and the Thunder Gauge with Sha-Chi attacks. Filling both activates Baishan’s Blessing, which increases attack power. Thunder can also paralyze enemies, interrupting their attacks.
The Lady’s Fan provides several elemental options through its Arcane Sigils, including burn, lightning, and ice, alongside effects that boost damage or deplete Sha-Chi. Blazing Edge focuses on fire. Its Flame Wave, Burning Blade, and Sunderflame abilities ignite enemies, and the weapon comes from using Soul Tempering on Sanguine Reach.
Reach and burst damage come with conditions
Wild Oriole Sword is available relatively early. Oriole Song sends waves forward with each strike while active, giving the weapon reach beyond its immediate attacks. Its Sword Art unleashes an unblockable flurry.
Fiend Saws open a brief attack window with Fiend Form. For 10 seconds, attacks deal more damage and cannot be blocked. Fiend Aura Erosion also fills a hidden meter that eventually triggers an explosion, giving the weapon another way to pressure enemies and bosses.
Aureate is a later option, unlocked by completing the Perfect Ending, so it is unavailable on a first playthrough. In New Game Plus, landing 5 golden swords on an enemy triggers Sword Energy Burst for heavy damage.
Bleed and dodge effects suit different fights
Jagged Steel comes from the Chapter 1 boss of the same name. Its later perks build the bleed gauge quickly, and filling it adds damage. Bleed only affects natural, living enemies, so the Chapter 3 wood-draining accessory is a practical pairing. The gauge is hidden, which means you cannot see exactly when the extra damage will trigger.
Seamless Death adds damage to a well-timed defense. At level 25, completing a perfect dodge sends flying rings toward an enemy. Its Reaping Rings attack creates distance while throwing a wave of rings, which can finish smaller enemies and hit bosses and elites hard.
Plan weapon upgrades around the reset cost
Weapon perks unlock at levels 5, 10, 15, and 25. Materials for the highest upgrades are found near the end of Soul’s journey. Reforging a weapon returns its spent upgrade materials, but resetting a weapon at level 10 or above also consumes a Weapon Reforge Talisman. You can find the talismans during the adventure or buy them from merchants, where limited currency makes repeated late-game swaps worth planning.
