So, here’s the scoop! If you’re a fan of Squid Game, you might want to sit down because Netflix may have just spilled the beans about when we’ll finally see more intense games. I mean, can you believe it? We’ve been waiting forever!
While Netflix has already confirmed that season 3 is coming in 2025, they might’ve accidentally let slip the exact date: June 27, 2025. Just six months away! That feels like lightning speed compared to the three-year wait between seasons one and two. Can you imagine how excited everyone must be right now?
If you’ve seen season 2 and kept up with creator Hwang Dong-hyuk’s comments, you’ll get why this isn’t exactly a traditional “season three.” He mentioned that this upcoming installment is more like Part 2 of Season 2. Here’s what he said:
“No other particular reason than that I originally envisioned it as a single series… But then, as I wrote the story along, it became too many episodes and too long of a story…” Basically, he had all these fantastic ideas but decided to split them up so we could enjoy Gi-hun’s story without exploding from suspense!
The production team filmed both seasons simultaneously! So, while there was a significant gap between releases, it was all about crafting an epic narrative arc spanning fourteen episodes, split over two seasons. While we often see shows releasing half their seasons at different times—like four episodes here and four there—this time around it’s seven hour-long episodes just six months apart. It’s a bit unconventional, but hey, who am I to complain?
You might be wondering why there is such a quick turnaround. Well, Netflix knows people are itching for answers after those cliffhangers from season two! Plus, they’ve got another strategy in play; they likely want to free up space in their schedule for other big hits like the final season of Stranger Things and Wednesday. Seriously though, next year is shaping up to be huge for Netflix!
I’m guessing we’ll see Squid Game drop in June, followed by Stranger Things in September/October, and then Wednesday later in the year. Fingers crossed my predictions hold up! Whatever happens though, it looks like Netflix has some serious content lined up for us.
