Marvel Tōkon’s Steam Debut Is Stumbling Over PC Performance Problems

More than half of the game's first 2,000-plus Steam reviews were negative, with players citing low frame rates, launch failures, Linux compatibility problems, and PSN-related regional access limits.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launched on Steam and PS5 on August 6, but its first day has been marked by performance complaints. Players have reported low frame rates and trouble starting the game, giving Arc System Works’ fighter a rough opening on PC.

At the time of reporting, the game had more than 2,000 reviews on Steam, with 55% marked negative. Steam’s peak concurrent player count stood at 24,498.

Frame-rate problems are the main complaint. Some players have described performance around 45 FPS, while others said they could not launch the game at all. Other reports describe micro-stutters and dropped frames during online matches, including a player discussion describing problems that can affect PS5 users when crossplay is enabled. For a fighting game built around precise timing, inconsistent performance can make matches difficult to play even when the underlying combat is working as intended.

The PC version is also facing criticism over its PSN sign-in requirement. That requirement creates a separate regional barrier, with players in countries where PSN is not supported potentially unable to purchase or play the game. Steam Deck and other SteamOS/Linux users have reported another issue, saying the game will not boot on their systems. Some Linux users have specifically cited the game’s kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat implementation when explaining why it will not run.

Arc System Works is investigating the PC reports

Arc System Works had already promised PC performance fixes for the August 6 launch. After release, the official MARVEL Tōkon account acknowledged that some PC players were still experiencing problems and said the team was investigating the reports while asking players to continue sharing feedback.

That response confirms that the performance complaints have reached the development team, but it does not provide a timeline for a fix. Until the issues are addressed, the Steam version’s reception may continue to suffer as players compare it with other major fighting games that run more consistently on their systems.
