Marvel Tōkon Will Launch With PC Performance Concerns Still Unresolved

Arc System Works acknowledged the beta problems and outlined PC fixes after MARVEL Tōkon reached 33,233 concurrent players on Steam.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will launch on August 6, but Arc System Works still has PC performance problems to address after the game’s short open beta. Players reported heavy stuttering and poor optimization across a range of hardware, taking some of the shine off the fighter’s stylish combat.

The beta also ran into trouble on PlayStation Network, which experienced a major outage on its opening day and prevented some players from accessing the test for much of the day in certain regions. PC players faced a separate problem with inconsistent performance during matches.

Arc System Works acknowledged the PC reports on July 25, saying that its team was investigating both gameplay and performance problems. The developer also apologized for the effect the issues had on players’ experience in an official MARVEL Tōkon post.

With the full release scheduled for Thursday, August 6, the team has just over a week to identify the cause and deliver a fix. That gives the developer a narrow window after the beta ended, especially since the problems affected the game’s core PC experience rather than a minor visual issue.

Arc System Works shared temporary PC fixes

Alongside its apology, the developer posted a six-part troubleshooting thread with settings that improved performance for some players. The suggestions included running the Shader Warm-Up tool, turning off Frame Generation, disabling recording software, and using Fullscreen instead of Borderless Fullscreen.

Players using DLSS were also advised to disable Frame Generation for the game through the NVIDIA App. Turning off the NVIDIA App Overlay was another suggested step. These options may help some systems, but Arc System Works has not presented them as a final solution.

One community theory points to the number of anti-cheat and PlayStation-related services running in the background. The processes reportedly did not consume many resources individually, but their combined presence could add extra strain to a CPU-heavy PC version. That explanation has not been confirmed by the developer.

More PC fixes are planned for launch

In a July 28 update, the official MARVEL Tōkon account thanked players for joining the beta and wrote, “To our PC players, message received.” Arc System Works said it was preparing broader changes for the problems reported during the test.

The planned work includes reducing overall CPU usage, fixing frame-rate drops and lag, and resolving an issue that caused unnecessary shader compilation at startup. The team is also working to improve compatibility when streaming with OBS and Discord, while addressing rollback netcode and cross-play issues.

Arc System Works added that it was working on other reported problems and was “heads down” to make sure the game delivers “at launch and beyond.”

Even with the technical issues, the beta drew a large PC audience. MARVEL Tōkon reached an all-time peak of 33,233 concurrent players on Steam, narrowly passing the 32,787-player peak recorded by Street Fighter 6‘s 2023 beta. It also surpassed Tekken 8‘s beta peak of 15,035 concurrent players from later that year.

That turnout gives Arc System Works plenty of feedback to work through before launch. PC players will be watching closely to see whether the final version arrives with the beta’s stuttering under control. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
