Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 to Premiere Cinematic Cut at Czech Film Festival

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is stepping onto an unusual stage, a film festival. Warhorse Studios announced that a “cinematic cut” of their RPG sequel will premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival’s Special Screenings on July 9. This marks a rare moment where a game is presented as a storytelling piece in a cinematic context.

The announcement came via Warhorse’s official X account, calling it “a proud moment for games as a serious storytelling medium.” The exact nature of this cinematic cut remains a mystery. Is it a slick compilation of cutscenes? Maybe a blend of gameplay moments and story sequences? Or, dare I say, an uninterrupted 80-hour epic? The suspense is real.

Warhorse CEO Martin Frývadlský expressed his excitement: “I have wished to see Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 on the big screen for a long time. I believe that the civil story of a blacksmith’s son will also appeal to film audiences and stand up to the competition of international movie productions.” Given the game’s sprawling, interactive nature, it’s an ambitious statement.

Having spent a good chunk of time with KCD2 myself, I can’t help but wonder if this cinematic cut will capture the essence of the game. The charm of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is not just in its story but in its peculiar, often messy interactivity—the detours to rob shops, the unwinnable roadside brawls, or Henry’s drunken dialogue options. Can a cut version truly convey that? Maybe it can. Perhaps it can’t.

Either way, it’s an interesting experiment and a sign that the boundaries between games and films are blurring unexpectedly. I’m eager to see what this cinematic cut looks like come July. What do you think? Will this cinematic cut do justice to the game’s story, or is it missing the point without the gameplay? Drop your thoughts below; I’m curious to hear your take on this one.
