GTA 6 Could Launch at 30fps on PS5 as Rockstar Weighs a 60fps Mode

Rockstar's current launch plan points to 30fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X, while Rob Nelson said a higher-frame-rate mode remains undecided.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently targeting 30 frames per second on PS5 and Xbox Series X. A recent Netflix preview ran on PS5 at 30fps, while Rockstar has confirmed the same frame rate for the Xbox Series X version at launch.

For now, 30fps is the only frame-rate target Rockstar has publicly described for the standard launch consoles. Players should not expect a confirmed selectable mode that raises the frame rate at release, although a faster option has not been ruled out.

Rob Nelson left the door open

YouTuber Davy Jones relayed the initial details after visiting Rockstar’s Edinburgh offices alongside other influencers. During that visit, Rob Nelson, the game’s lead developer and co-director as well as Rockstar North’s co-studio head and head of development, reportedly confirmed the 30fps target.

In an interview with Flow Games, Nelson also said the studio could add more graphics options later. He previously left the timing question open, saying he would need “to consult the technical team to determine if there will be a 60fps option at launch or later.” Rockstar has not committed to a higher-frame-rate mode or provided a timeline for one.

A 60fps option could still be ready for launch, or it could arrive in a later update. Until Rockstar makes that decision public, PS5 and Xbox Series X players should view 30fps as the working target rather than a final promise about every mode.

Rockstar has not specified a PS5 Pro mode

Rockstar has not shared a separate frame-rate target for PS5 Pro. Based on the details available so far, 30fps is the only stated launch target for the standard PS5 and Xbox Series X versions.

Rockstar’s past console releases offer some context, although they do not answer the question for GTA 6. Grand Theft Auto V received 60fps support on current-generation consoles years after its original release, while Red Dead Redemption 2 still does not have a 60fps upgrade. Rockstar has not said whether GTA 6 will receive a similar option, or when it could arrive if one is approved.

The current release plan still points to November 19, 2026, and Take-Two’s launch buildup has not been presented as a schedule change.
