Grand Theft Auto 6 could begin its launch with sales measured in the tens of millions, according to new analysis from Newzoo. The research firm estimates that the game’s pre-order performance has already created the strongest opening campaign it has recorded.
Newzoo’s figures cover the final week of June, when digital pre-orders brought in about $180 million across the United States and the five largest European markets. Using the player distribution of Grand Theft Auto V as a guide, the firm estimates that global digital spending reached roughly $260 million during that first week.
That number was used to model Grand Theft Auto 6’s first week on sale in November. Newzoo places the game in its “proven sequel” sales category, which includes major follow-ups that attract a large share of their buyers before launch. The firm estimates that pre-orders could represent about 5.8% of sales through the end of the launch week.
Newzoo sees a $3.25 billion to $5.2 billion range
Under its main model, Newzoo projects around $4.5 billion in revenue by the end of Grand Theft Auto 6’s first week, equal to approximately 51 million copies. The analysis also accounts for the possibility that the game’s unusually large audience buys earlier than expected.
Even with that more aggressive pre-order pattern, Newzoo’s lower estimate still lands at about $3.3 billion in launch-week revenue, or close to 37 million units. Its wider projected range runs from $3.25 billion to $5.2 billion.
Newzoo also pushed back on social media claims that the game had already generated $1 billion in pre-orders 21 weeks before launch. The firm said its data showed $180 million in digital pre-order spending across the tracked markets during the final week of June, with most of the growth still ahead.
“Run that figure through the plausible band of preorder curves, and GTA VI is on track to book between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in week-one launch revenue,” Newzoo said in its analysis. The firm described even its most cautious reading as “a tremendous number by any historical standard.”
Rockstar’s pre-order campaign has already included multiple editions, including the $100 Ultimate Edition detailed before orders opened. The standard edition is priced at $80, while pre-orders also include a bonus package and a month of GTA+ after the included code is redeemed.
These projections remain estimates rather than confirmed sales results. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch in November for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
