Fallout 76’s Slasher Update Is Live With 60 FPS Console Versions and Unique Weapon Crafting
The update also adds Legacy Seasons and Season 26, while new seasonal fish will appear in Appalachia on September 22.

Fallout 76 has received The Slasher update, bringing its multi-week mystery to Appalachia alongside native Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 versions, new crafting options for special gear, Legacy Seasons, and Season 26. Bethesda’s official Steam release notes confirm that the current-generation versions are now available, although players must redownload the full game to access them.
The Slasher story will unfold across the weeks following the update rather than arriving as one self-contained event. Players can tune into the Breaking News station through the Pip-Boy and follow updates from The Debunker Radio as new parts of the story become available. It follows the previously announced September 15 Slasher rollout, with the release notes now confirming the wider systems and content arriving alongside the investigation.
Fallout 76’s current-generation upgrade is now available
Players on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PS5 Pro can target 60 frames per second. Compatible displays will also support 4K resolution on Xbox Series X, Xbox One X, and PS5 Pro, while variable refresh rate support is available on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and PS5 Pro. PS5 and PS4 Pro support 1440p, and previous-generation platforms continue to support 1080p.
Accessing the native versions requires a separate download from the game’s store page on Xbox or PlayStation. Bethesda said the upgrade will improve performance and stability while giving the team more room to tune the game across current and previous-generation hardware.
Unique gear can now receive new Legendary Mods
The update gives unique weapons and armor a new place in long-term builds. Players can change their Legendary Mods and add a fourth Legendary Mod to qualifying items, with the workbench also displaying which items carry the unique tag.
Legacy Seasons offer another long-term reward path by bringing back one past season alongside the current season. The first is Armor Ace and the Power Patrol in Cold Steel, while Season 10: Red Rocket ‘Across America’ Presents: The City of Steel will arrive alongside the Winter update. Season 26, Beware The Blood Moon, supplies the current reward track, and new seasonal fish with related recipes will appear on September 22.
