1047 Games has gone through another round of layoffs just weeks after Empulse entered Early Access on Steam. The studio has not announced how many employees were affected.
Impacted workers shared news of the cuts on LinkedIn. One former principal technical sound designer said the layoff was his second in less than two years. An associate producer also confirmed their departure after four years with the company.
Empulse Has Struggled to Build Momentum
Empulse launched into Early Access on June 24 and received mostly positive reviews on Steam. Its player count peaked at just under 2,900 concurrent users, though the number has declined from day to day since then.
1047 Games has not issued a public statement about the latest job cuts. The studio was asked about the size and scope of the layoffs, but no response had been provided at the time of reporting.
The company is also supporting SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded, the rebranded version of Splitgate 2. The free-to-play arena shooter has averaged roughly 250 daily concurrent players on Steam. The rebrand and relaunch previously brought changes to the game’s factions, abilities, progression, ranked play, and core combat focus, as detailed in the SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded launch plans.
This is not the first round of layoffs at 1047 Games. The studio also cut jobs about a year ago after the full release of what was then called Splitgate 2. At that time, the company said the move would redirect resources toward building the best game possible for its players.
