Way and nuc Receive One-Year Riot Warnings After LEC Final Week Antics

nuc and Way received official Riot Games warnings for unbecoming conduct during the final week of the 2026 LEC Summer Split. Team Heretics support Han “Way” Gil and Shifters midlaner Ilias “nuc” Bizriken were not fined or suspended, but both warnings will remain active for one year and expire on August 30, 2027.

The incident followed the teams’ August 28 meeting. Shifters had already been eliminated from playoff contention, while Heretics were still holding onto slim postseason hopes. Shifters won the series 2-0, and the match took on a relaxed tone as the team played its final games of the split.

Some of the interaction went beyond ordinary in-game banter. Obscene gestures and other on-stage antics circulated online, leading Riot to classify the behavior as “unbecoming conduct of a LEC player.” TraytonTV documented the exchange during the match in a post shared on August 28.

Riot’s warning system stops short of fines and suspensions

Under Riot’s disciplinary framework, a warning serves as a cautionary penalty without an additional sanction. Future violations can lead to more serious consequences depending on the severity of the behavior and a player’s disciplinary history. Since neither Way nor nuc had an existing warning, the current ruling carries no financial or competitive penalty.

Shifters brought personality to a difficult final week

Shifters finished the Summer Split with a 1-8 record, but the team’s animated approach gave the closing week a livelier atmosphere. Players shouted after plays and interacted with opponents even as the season was winding down.

Jungler Théo “Sheo” Borile said in an interview with Sheep Esports that the team was looking for ways to enjoy itself after struggling to win. He said the shouting helped motivate the players and could create momentum during games, while also arguing that the LEC benefits from teams willing to show more personality on stage.

Nuc had already announced that he would step away from professional League of Legends after the Summer Split. During the final stretch, he said players have an entertainment role alongside their competitive responsibilities and that more personality could make matches more enjoyable for viewers. Way also kept the tone light in a September 1 public response that joked about his interaction with Sheo. Some members of the LEC community questioned whether the warnings were necessary. Hooligans head coach Tim “Sh0x” Rücker argued that the behavior was harmless and that professional competition needs personalities, while PCIFIC Esports assistant coach and analyst Zeus Mora Corredera said the interactions were not intended as disrespect.

Riot has taken other disciplinary action against LEC players and teams during 2026. Movistar KOI and Karmine Corp were each fined €5,000 after a public dispute surrounding the Madrid Roadtrip, while Movistar KOI midlaner Joseph “Jojopyun” Pyun received a €2,000 fine and a warning over broadcast comments.

Way and nuc therefore avoided the harsher penalties available under Riot’s system, but the decision still draws a clear boundary around how much stage banter the league will accept. Shifters’ final week showed the entertainment value of expressive players, while the warnings confirmed that personality does not put competitors outside the league’s conduct rules.
