Dune: Awakening’s final pre-launch signal points to more Polar Cap news

Funcom's Gamescom 2026 recap details the PlayStation 5 Pro demo, released Xbox specifications and the September 22, 2026 console launch.

Dune: Awakening‘s latest Communinet Signal is also its last before the September 22 console launch. In the Communinet Signal #20 announcement on Steam, Funcom recapped Gamescom 2026, shared the latest console details and said more information about the Polar Cap is coming.

Gamescom gave players a first look at the console build

Funcom brought Dune: Awakening to Cologne as part of the Level Infinite floor, where visitors could try the upcoming console version for the first time. The preview build ran on PlayStation 5 Pro systems with an early-to-mid-game character already saved, giving attendees access to single-player content, Testing Stations, building and driving.

The booth used a desert-themed living room setup with bean bags and large screens. Visitors who completed their sessions also received Dune: Awakening thumbstick grips and promotional DLC codes.

The September 22 rollout will bring the game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox, while the Filmic Archive DLC and cross-play are also part of the plans. Funcom’s Gamescom announcement covers the full reveal, while our console and DLC coverage breaks down the incoming content. The signal also says Xbox specifications have been released.

Daniel Moncada and Muad’Jim joined the Gamescom recap

Gamescom had a few less expected guests, too. Daniel Moncada, known for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, visited the booth, spoke with the team about gaming and recorded videos for the community.

The signal also followed Muad’Jim, a hand-crafted Muad’dib figure that appeared throughout Funcom’s event coverage. A community poll supported bringing the character back, so Muad’Jim will return in future social stories.

Community creations filled out the rest of the signal, from fan art and screenshots to ambitious Arrakis bases and physical Dune-inspired projects, including a hand-blown vase based on Dune: Awakening. Funcom also highlighted another community event in the works, along with more information about the Polar Cap.

Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival MMO set on the desert planet Arrakis. Players create a custom character and must manage thirst, maintain stillsuits, and contend with environmental hazards like sandstorms, extreme heat, and roaming sandworms. The game involves scavenging resources, crafting equipment, building shelters, and competing with other players to harvest and transport spice. As players progress, they advance through phases from basic survival to leading a guild, eventually participating in faction warfare between House Atreides and House Harkonnen. The game features both PvE and PvP zones, with a Deep Desert area that reshapes weekly through Coriolis storms.
