DOOM: The Dark Ages Hotfix Fixes Progression Traps, but Resets Keybinds
Update 4 Hotfix 1 repairs Chain Spear inputs, two progression-blocking death bugs, and several common crashes across all platforms.

DOOM: The Dark Ages received Update 4 Hotfix 1 on July 14, addressing a handful of problems tied to the recent update. The hotfix is available on all platforms, according to the official Steam announcement.
The patch fixes the Chain Spear’s incorrectly displayed inputs, though there is an important catch for anyone who customized their controls. Player bindings were reset to their default settings, so custom keybinds and button layouts need to be set up again.
Two campaign progression issues were also addressed. Dying during combat in Hell’s Core or Osseus could place players behind a red wall, preventing them from moving forward. The hotfix removes those blockers and also takes care of several of the game’s most common crashes.
Bethesda’s full Update 4 release notes remain available for players who want the wider list of changes. Anyone still running into trouble can contact the game’s Customer Service team.
