Blizzard has backed away from one of the harsher Diablo 4 loot changes it had lined up for Season 14. After a week-long playtest, the studio chose a compromise that keeps Uniques feeling like their own item class instead of turning them into little more than random purple drops.
The revised plan, laid out in Blizzard’s updated Season 14 patch notes, gives Uniques two guaranteed stats tied to the item’s theme. The rest of the affixes stay random, but players will be able to swap one of them to suit a build.
That is a cleaner answer than the version Blizzard floated earlier, which would have stripped Uniques of their curated bonuses. The change also lines up with the reaction to Blizzard’s earlier PTR test in Diablo 4’s next PTR. Rare loot should feel rewarding, not like a downgrade with a shinier tooltip.
Blizzard is also widening the chase at the top end. In the new setup, any Unique that drops with a purple tooltip can be treated as a Mythic Unique, and those items will come in with maxed-out stats when they drop or when they are crafted. The Season of Death Awakening will begin on June 30.
It is a far better fit for Diablo 4 than the original plan, and it keeps the hunt for good loot from feeling flat. Tell us what you think in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
