Counter-Strike 2 Reworks Premier Map Picks and Adds Rush 3v3

The update also adds silent reloads, resolution-independent crosshairs, C4 stickers, map fixes, and new Workshop scripting tools.

Counter-Strike 2 is changing how Premier matches select maps while adding Rush, a queued 3v3 mode built around a series of randomly selected battle arenas.

Premier now gives Team 1 one map pick, Team 2 two picks, and Team 1 a final selection. The game then randomly chooses one of those four maps, giving teams more influence over the pool without removing the final element of chance.

Rush sends teams through battle arenas as they push toward the opposing castle. Players win a round by controlling the tower after eliminating the enemy team or once the timer expires. Arena selection is random for every match.

Several gameplay changes affect regular matches as well. Players can hold the reload key to reload quietly at a slower speed, and unscoping a sniper weapon no longer creates a sound. Counter-Strike 2 also receives clearer visuals, improved bullet impact decals, updated crosshair tools, C4 sticker support, and Steam Community Group clan tags.

Map fixes cover Ancient, Cache, Mirage, and Train. Workshop creators gain new entities for custom minimaps, location-specific skyboxes, deathcam limits, and volume-based camera shake. The creator tools continue the game’s recent map-scripting expansion, following the earlier custom HUD and scripted camera update.

Valve detailed the full changes in its Steam announcement.

Counter-Strike 2

Counter-Strike 2 is a free-to-play multiplayer tactical first-person shooter developed and published by Valve. Released in September 2023, it is the fifth main entry in the Counter-Strike series and serves as a direct replacement for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Steam. Two teams, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, compete in objective-based rounds across modes such as bomb defusal and hostage rescue. Built on the Source 2 engine, the game introduced volumetric smoke physics, revised weapon handling, and a new sub-tick server architecture. It inherited all cosmetic items from its predecessor and features both a map-specific Competitive mode and a numerically ranked Premier mode.
