Capcom Sold 93.3% of Its Games Digitally in FY27’s First Quarter

Capcom sold 22.2 million digital games against 1.6 million physical copies in Q1 FY27 and expects digital sales to reach 95.4% for the full year.

Capcom’s latest financial figures show that digital purchases accounted for 93.3% of its game sales during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. Physical copies made up the remaining 6.7%, giving the publisher another clear sign that most of its customers now buy games digitally.

Capcom sold 22.2 million digital games during the quarter, compared with 1.6 million physical copies. The company expects digital games to account for 95.4% of its sales during the fiscal year ending in March 2027.

The company recorded 64% more game sales by volume than during the same period last year. The digital share was still lower than the previous year’s 95.2%, though, so the increase in total sales did not produce a new percentage high for Capcom.

PC Accounts for Most of Capcom’s Digital Sales

Capcom’s own Q1 FY27 financial materials break down where those digital purchases happened. PC represented 60% of digital sales, while consoles accounted for 33%. The two figures nearly match the company’s overall 93.3% digital share.

Capcom described the period with a short summary: “Digital contents drove earnings; revenue and profit up YoY.” The publisher’s digital share has climbed considerably from the 85% recorded in 2023, which was its lowest point over the five-year period referenced in the report.

The results also arrived as platform holders continue to put more attention on digital distribution. Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced plans to stop producing discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028, a move that has prompted a petition, boycott effort, and a planned late-August blackout.

Resident Evil Requiem Leads Capcom’s Recent Sales

Resident Evil Requiem was one of the main contributors to Capcom’s results. Cumulative sales for the game passed 8 million units during the quarter, helping push Capcom’s sales volume to its highest level in five years.

Other releases and older games also continued to bring in sales. The company reported that PRAGMATA sold 2.5 million units in Q1 FY27, while Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter: World, and Devil May Cry 5 continued to perform well.

Older releases accounted for 89.3% of Capcom’s sales during the quarter, showing the continuing importance of the publisher’s back catalog alongside its newer games.

There is also an accounting detail behind the digital figure. Capcom’s historical sales data indicates that the company has counted game-key cards on Switch 2 as digital sales rather than physical units. As a result, the 93.3% figure does not treat every form of physical retail packaging as a physical sale.

Capcom’s figures do not mean physical games have disappeared, but they show how heavily the publisher’s business now depends on digital purchases. Even with a small year-over-year drop in the percentage, digital sales remain the main route through which players are buying Capcom games.
