Ace Combat 8 Will Give Pilots an Online Airbase to Hang Out Between Dogfights
Players can build a custom pilot avatar, play Pac-Man in an arcade, and join score-based co-op or PvP battles.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will arrive in October with more than a stack of aircraft and dramatic missile-lock warnings. Bandai Namco is also giving pilots an online airbase where they can create a custom avatar, meet other players, and spend time between sorties before heading back into the sky.
The airbase acts as a social hub for the game’s multiplayer features. Players can choose from a range of faces and other character details, then move around the facility alongside other pilot avatars. Emotes provide a way to communicate, while a stage offers somewhere to gather and an arcade includes Pac-Man. It is an unexpectedly relaxed setup for a series built around high-speed aerial combat.
Bandai Namco’s Online 101 video also outlined the 2 main multiplayer modes. Co-Op Assault is a competitive PvE score race for 2 teams of 4, with both sides destroying hostile NPC forces within a time limit. Co-Op Warfare keeps the score race but adds direct competition, putting both teams in the same airspace while they hunt targets and each other.
Target destruction raises a pilot’s threat level in Co-Op Warfare. A higher threat level produces a larger score, but it also increases the points awarded to the opposing team when that pilot is shot down. Chasing a bigger total will come with a clear risk, especially when enemy players can turn the most dangerous pilot into their best scoring opportunity.
Returning to the airbase after a match may also open special missions with extra rewards. Scramble sends matchmade wingmen against a squadron of NPC aces, while Emergency Sortie asks players to destroy colossal weapons from the series, including the Chandelier railgun and the Arsenal Bird. Limited-time PvP offerings will include 4v4 deathmatches and free-for-alls with 8 pilots.
Progression will unlock new aircraft, upgrade parts, aircraft-specific performance improvements, and more options for customizing both pilots and jets. The less welcome part is a premium battle pass system built around 2-month seasons. Bandai Namco has said that aircraft DLC included in a premium pass will remain available for separate purchase after its season ends, so the pass will not be the only route to those aircraft.
The airbase gives Ace Combat 8 a social layer that is easy to understand, while the score rules add a sharper risk-and-reward loop to its combat modes. Whether the extra customization and seasonal content feel like a good fit will depend on how much of the pilot and aircraft catalog sits outside the standard progression when the game launches.
