Today, Nvidia releases a new driver that includes its RTX Video Super Resolution technology, which uses AI to upscale web videos up to 4K resolution on RTX 30 and 40-series graphics cards. The technology can improve videos’ clarity, detail, and visual quality by sharpening objects’ edges and reducing video artifacts.
The RTX Video Super Resolution technology supports videos between 360p and 1440p up to 144Hz in frame rate, making it ideal for gamers and users with high-refresh-rate displays. The fact that this technology works inside Chrome or Edge means that it is easily accessible to a wide range of users and could potentially help to improve the quality of video streaming services like Netflix or YouTube.
As this works on any web video, you could use it to upscale content from Twitch or even streaming apps like Netflix, where you typically have to pay extra for 4K streams. Given this technique was already impressive on the Shield TV, we’re bound to see plenty of examples of where this can be applied to improve old and blurry YouTube videos.
In addition, Nvidia’s Eye Contact feature for Nvidia Broadcast uses AI to make it appear like the person on the other end of a video call is making eye contact, which can help to improve the overall quality of video calls and make them feel more natural and engaging.
Overall, Nvidia’s use of AI techniques in video processing and gaming has been instrumental in advancing the field and providing users with new and innovative ways to improve their experiences. As AI technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more exciting developments in this area.
