War Thunder Will Add NVIDIA DLSS 5 With Eagle’s Shadow

The upcoming major update will bring neural rendering to the game, with changes aimed at lighting, weather, and surface detail.

War Thunder’s upcoming Eagle’s Shadow major update will add NVIDIA DLSS 5, bringing 3D-Guided Neural Rendering to the vehicular combat game. Gaijin says the feature will be enabled for RTX devices when the update arrives. Gaijin introduced Eagle’s Shadow with a trailer on October 29 without sharing a feature rundown or release date.

The technology uses an AI model to process a rendered frame alongside color, motion-vector, and depth information. According to Gaijin’s announcement, that process adjusts lighting, shading, and material properties in real time while preserving the underlying 3D scene.

Gaijin expects the visual changes to be apparent in overcast and rainy conditions, including the appearance of wet surfaces. Its comparison images show an aircraft on a rain-soaked runway with DLSS 5 off and on.

Gaijin specifically points to GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards and RTX Spark devices when discussing path tracing, other ray-traced effects, and high frame rates. It did not provide frame-rate figures in the announcement.

War Thunder already supports DLSS 2.0 on RTX graphics cards, a feature introduced with the New Power update and the move to Dagor Engine 6.0. More recently, Update 2.59.0.87 fixed flickering or disappearing ray-traced ship shadows and a black-screen issue on Linux with Ray Reconstruction enabled.
