It’s a bit weird listening to this problem, but users have been allowed to add false money to Valve’s digital reseller platform, Steam. Steam is undoubtedly one of the most popular digital reseller platforms, as it is the only one that has managed to gather that many developers under its wing. Therefore, it’s unnatural to hear it contained an issue of this extent.
This exploit has been discovered by a group of hackers known as Hackerone, as discovered by GameRant. This type of exploit shouldn’t exist, as it is considered to be one of the most rigorous in Valve’s history. The exploit has been patched by Valve recently, thanks to the hackers who have received their respective rewards.
This flaw allowed users to receive money, which could’ve potentially lead to a Steam marketplace crisis. Shortly after the report by “drbrix” has been awarded $7500 and praised for his behavior, choosing to report this issue to Valve.
Valve spokesman also thanked the person who reported the bug, “thanks to the person who reported this bug we were able to work with the payment provider to resolve the issue without any impact on customers.”
