Grand Theft Auto VI‘s PS5 launch trailer offers no clear evidence that Sony’s QSSR upscaler is active, according to Digital Foundry’s Rich Leadbetter. A disclaimer says the footage was captured on PS5, but the trailer does not establish the final game’s rendering setup.
Leadbetter’s comparison draws on Marvel’s Wolverine Quality Mode, where he cited about 4ms to upscale an image to 4K. Against a 33ms frame budget, that would account for more than 10%. It is a comparison based on Wolverine, not a test of GTA 6.
Leadbetter raised 1440p internal rendering as a hypothetical, not a confirmed resolution for GTA 6. If the game already renders at a high enough resolution to scale well to 4K, he questioned whether QSSR’s extra processing would bring enough image-quality improvement to justify its cost.
Sony has enabled QSSR on base PS5 in Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, and said its developer tools would be offered more broadly. No QSSR implementation for GTA 6 has been confirmed.
The trailer may use older footage, so it does not rule out changes before the game is released. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on Nov. 19, 2026.
