Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Will Tie Operator Growth to Risky Extractions
Successful exfils will advance Dog Tags toward new traits, while recovering an Operator who goes MIA will cost DMZ Cash.

Operator progression in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s upcoming DMZ will carry a real extraction risk. Each successful exfil will advance an Operator’s Dog Tags toward Trait Points, but if that character goes Missing in Action, recovering them will cost DMZ Cash, with the price rising alongside their trait investment.
Players will begin with two Operator slots and unlock a third as they advance through DMZ levels. Operators will grow through survival and DMZ XP, with points available across the Warfighter, Scout, and Survivalist trait trees. The system will cap each Operator at 18 Trait Points, while offering more than 60 possible traits, including Warfighter’s Quick Fix, Scout’s UAV Upgrade, and Survivalist’s increased Consumable Duration.
A recovered Operator will keep their traits but lose their gear. Players can also dismiss an Operator rather than pay the recovery cost, putting equipment and character development on separate sides of the extraction gamble.
Shared loot connects Operators and crafting
DMZ will share everything acquired, including Bank and Stash contents, across all Active Duty Operators. A Scout built for gathering supplies can therefore support a different Operator prepared for another kind of deployment.
Loot will also feed the FOB’s 3D Printer. The Call of Duty Blog’s FOB guide details four basic Resources, Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals, and Metals, alongside rarer 3D Printer Ingredients such as Binding Catalyst, Biomaterials, Detonators, and Control Units. Recipes will unlock through progression or turn up during deployments, and crafted items can go straight to the Stash or onto an Operator.
Deployments will offer Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, and Free Roam, three ways to enter Hajin. Story Missions will provide replayable, narrative-led objectives, while Dynamic Operations will send squads after multiple goals and award DMZ XP, Cash, and a Supply Drop. The Call of Duty Blog’s Hajin deep dive covers those deployment options.
Players with a digital preorder or prepurchase will get Campaign Early Access starting October 16, 2026, and early access to all of DMZ starting October 20.
