Unrailed 2 Adds the Towcomotive, a Rope-Bound Engine With a Cross-Play Catch
The engine tethers the crew and boosts attached wagons, but choosing it disables cross-play until it reaches consoles.

Unrailed 2: Back on Track has added the Towcomotive, an engine that ropes every player to the train and supercharges its attached wagons. The crew can slow it down by pulling backward together. Update v-1003-1990541 also adds a character, new score checkpoints, cosmetic packs, and a range of fixes.
The Towcomotive builds on the rope mechanic tested as the Experimental Rope Engine in a September 17 experimental build. That test tied players to the locomotive and made their spacing affect train speed. The engine now joins the lineup under its new name, with attached wagons receiving a boost.
There is a cross-play limitation for groups with console players. Indoor Astronaut’s Steam announcement notes that the Towcomotive is not on consoles yet, so selecting it disables cross-play. Groups that want to play with console friends will need to choose another engine and make sure cross-play is enabled.
The update also adds Bug to the character roster and improves the handbook with milk effects for milkable NPCs. In the handbook example, the frog’s milk effect is 5x Torch.

Endless runs now upload scores after the first biome and the first full round of biomes, just before players reach a biome for the second time. Those First Biome and First Round sections had already appeared in the September 21 experimental build.
Two optional cosmetic packs are now available: On-Board Bistro and the Fun n’Games Item Pack. Indoor Astronaut notes that the game already includes 36 characters and 42 wearable items, and that these packs are cosmetic only.
Other adjustments affect Time Mode rewards and endgame speed. Extension rewards now depend on the seed and engine, with task rewards intended to stay consistent at the same station, though they can still vary with the train and player count. The lab weight and button move to the right of the station, and endgame speed continues to increase by 3% per station instead of stopping at a linear cap. The update also fixes a task timer that failed to reset and maps that could overwrite cartridges from completed runs.
The changelog includes a fix for bots walking too far to gather resources, memory leak fixes, and a map-generation freeze fix, along with other potential memory-related crash fixes. The .NET 10 build and automatic Vulkan selection for modern AMD GPUs had already appeared in the July 29 experimental build. This update also lists improved crash reporting and a fix for a likely cause of the most common crash in compatibility graphics mode.
