Apex Legends Makes Street Fighter 6 Wildcard Blocking Easier to Break
The update also stops damage from extending Fighter Mode and restores Core Wildcard alongside Apex K.O.

Apex Legends is tuning the Street Fighter 6 collaboration’s Wildcard event after community feedback. Blocking will drain the Fighter Gauge faster, damage will no longer extend Fighter Mode, and Core Wildcard will return alongside Apex K.O. in the adjustments detailed in the game’s September 24 Steam update notice.
The Block mechanic had drawn criticism for making it too difficult to return fire. Respawn said the faster Gauge drain should let players break someone out of blocking after dealing enough damage, keeping the defensive option from overwhelming the shooting at the center of Apex Legends.
Fighter Mode is receiving a separate limit. Dealing damage while already in Fighter Mode will no longer extend its duration, addressing matches where players could remain in the form for very long stretches and make the whole lobby feel as if it were stuck in the same mode.
Core Wildcard will also be available alongside Apex K.O. Respawn acknowledged that running two versions of Wildcard at once could create complications, but said the option should better serve players when an event moves too far from Wildcard’s usual design. Match data and community feedback will continue to guide that decision.
The changes follow the September 23 patch, which fixed a Firing Range crash, a Ballistic sling issue, a daily challenge progression problem, and a Wildcard KO weapon lockout.
Patch Notes for Apex Legends: Latest Updates – 09/24/2026
The latest adjustments target the balance of blocking, the length of Fighter Mode, and the event’s available Wildcard variants.
🛠️ADJUSTED:
- Blocking with drain Fighter Gauge more quickly.
Dev note: Some feedback suggested that the Block mechanic felt overtuned and made shooting feel useless, noting that Apex is a shooter, first. This change will allow you to more reliably break a player out of blocking after doing enough damage.) - Fighter Mode will no longer be extended by doing damage while in Fighter Mode.
Dev note: We’ve seen instances of players staying in Fighter Mode for tremendously long periods of time, which leads to a feeling like the entire lobby is in Fighter mode for the entire match. - Core Wildcard is returning alongside Apex K.O.
Dev note: We see this feedback from the community often whenever we do Wildcard events. While there potential complications by allowing two instances of Wildcard to exist simultaneously, we feel this approach will be most beneficial to players when the Event varies too far from the Wildcard design ethos. We will continue to closely monitor match data and community feedback.
