Silent Hill Film Reboot Is Reportedly Being Considered After Resident Evil’s $100 Million-Plus Opening
The reported plan would start a separate continuity while Konami considers potential Hollywood partners for the horror franchise.

Konami is reportedly considering another Silent Hill film, but the next adaptation could leave the existing movie continuity behind. The reported project follows the strong theatrical performance of Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film and would give the fog-covered horror franchise a fresh starting point.
A DreadCentral report says Konami is weighing potential Hollywood partners for a full reboot and describes the idea as a “bold new take on the franchise.” Rather than continue the previous films, the proposed movie would begin a separate continuity. With partners still under consideration, the project remains an early report rather than a confirmed production announcement.
Resident Evil gives the report its timing
Cregger’s Resident Evil film opened to more than $100 million worldwide during its first weekend, setting a new opening record for the movie franchise. Strong critic and audience scores also helped make it one of the year’s highest-rated video game adaptations.
The film had faced complaints about its casting, story direction, and connection to the games before release. Reception changed after audiences saw the finished movie, with praise directed at its new story and references to earlier Resident Evil games. Rather than directly adapting one specific game, the film builds a new story within the established game world. That turnaround provides the backdrop for Konami’s reported interest in trying a similar reset with Silent Hill.

Silent Hill’s previous films leave room for a reset
The most recent movie, Return to Silent Hill, arrived earlier in 2026 and retold the story of Silent Hill 2, including James Sunderland, Eddie, and Laura. Its fan and critic response was poor, and the film also struggled at the box office, continuing a difficult run for the film side of the franchise.
Christophe Gans directed the original Silent Hill film, which arrived in 2006. Its story followed a mother searching for her missing daughter in the fog-covered town while drawing on several recognizable ideas from the original game.
The 2012 follow-up, Silent Hill: Revelation, received a much rougher reception and currently holds an 8% score on Rotten Tomatoes. A new continuity would give Konami and its potential partners room to use the series’ setting, creatures, and history without simply repeating the earlier films.
A separate game revival is also moving forward. Silent Hill: Townfall is scheduled to release for PS5 and PC on September 24, 2026, giving Konami another current project tied to the series while the reported film plans remain unsettled.
