Euro Truck Simulator 2 Update 1.61 Is Now Live With Map Tools and Truck Reworks
The release adds Proximity Exploration, a Volvo FH Series 6 anniversary edition, a Livestock Trailer overhaul, and Coaches DLC map preparation.
Euro Truck Simulator 2’s 1.61 update is now live on Steam, adding a new way to finish map discovery, fresh Volvo FH Series 6 customization, and a pair of trailer refreshes.
SCS Software confirmed the release in its Steam announcement. Following the 1.61 Open Beta, the finished update keeps Proximity Exploration, the Livestock Trailer rework, the Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack update, and map work for the upcoming Coaches DLC.
The Multi-Function Display and In-Game Menu additions are not part of this release. SCS Software will introduce both features in a future update after giving them more time in development.
Proximity Exploration makes map completion less tedious
Proximity Exploration reveals a small area around the truck while it travels, so drivers no longer need to cover every tiny piece of road to mark nearby sections as discovered. The optional feature can also uncover roads around rest stops, toll gates, border crossings, gas stations, and other locations where several routes sit close together.
Secret roads still require some actual driving. Proximity Exploration may reveal the first segment when the truck gets close, but the remaining route only becomes discovered by following it. Drivers can turn the feature on through the game’s settings.
Volvo FH Series 6 gets anniversary customization
The Volvo FH Series 6 100 Year Edition joins the base game with new exterior and interior options for the Aero XL cabin. Drivers can choose between the 100 Year Edition – Night and 100 Year Edition – Day paint jobs, along with two light boxes featuring either the 100 Year logo or the FH16 logo.
A new interior option adds black leather door panels, special stitching, carpets, a rear wall decoration, and dashboard ambient LED lighting in red or blue. The available accessories include a black leather steering wheel and two-tone seats with a black leather base, a gray textile upper section, and the 100 Year logo.
The Improved Material System also reaches the Volvo FH Series 6, Volvo FH Series 5, and Volvo FH Series 4 in update 1.61. Leather, fabric, plastic, and metal should be easier to tell apart in darker cabins because the system changes how those materials react to surrounding light. The DAF NGD and MAN TG3 TGX had already received the system in earlier work.
Trailer changes and Coaches map preparation
The Livestock Trailer has been rebuilt around modern European designs. Its former belly axle option has been replaced by a lowered chassis with dual wheels, while owned trailers now offer Straight 3 Axle and Lowered 3 Axle configurations. Drivers can also select an Aluminium body or a fully paintable body, add accessories, and customize up to four color sections on certain parts.
Freight Market and AI traffic versions now match the rebuilt trailer, with company paint jobs receiving their own visual updates. The Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack also begins a wider refresh with a redesigned low loader and updated accessories. Its cargo options remain unchanged.
Map work is preparing Euro Truck Simulator 2 for the upcoming Coaches DLC. Nuremberg gains a new bus station and nearby landmarks, while stations in Karlstad, Aarhus, and Thessaloniki receive changes for coach traffic. Karlstad gets a new station building, Thessaloniki receives new signage, and Heraklion opens a previously inaccessible street for its bus station.
Border crossings now include vehicle-specific navigation and layout changes for coaches. Smaller adjustments also affect bus stops and surrounding areas across the map.
