NBA 2K27’s September 17 Gameplay Update Will Tune Shooting, Dunks and Game Speed
The update will also correct a steal-rating issue and apply automatically without requiring a separate download.

NBA 2K27 will receive a gameplay update around September 17, 2026, with changes to defensive contests, open-shot outcomes, dunk success, steals, and game-speed consistency. Visual Concepts outlined the scheduled adjustments in its September 17 Steam announcement.
No download is required for the update. It will apply automatically, and returning to the Main Menu will make sure the latest version is active.
Well-contested and low-percentage shots will become less effective, while wide-open attempts will receive a slight boost. Standard dunks will also succeed more often against average and below-average interior defenders, and the Rise Up badge will provide a stronger benefit at Gold tier and above.
Steal outcomes are receiving a correction as well. Lower-rated defenders and players with depleted adrenaline should no longer receive more consistent ball-on-ball steals than elite defenders, while Steal rating will be rewarded more properly when making contact with the ball. Game speed will also be increased and standardized for greater consistency across modes.
NBA 2K27 September 17 Gameplay Update Notes
The gameplay pass focuses on shot quality, dunk reliability, ball security, and consistency between modes. The official notes are reproduced below.
SHOOTING
- Strengthened defensive contests. Well-contested and low-percentage attempts are now less effective, while wide-open looks received a slight boost toward smarter shots.
DUNKING
- Standard dunks now succeed more often, most notably against average and below-average interior defenders.
- The Rise Up badge now provides a more meaningful benefit at Gold tier and above.
STEALS AND BALL SECURITY
- Addressed an issue where lower-rated defenders (and players with depleted adrenaline) were being rewarded with ball-on-ball steals more consistently than elite defenders. Steal rating is now properly rewarded on contact with the ball.
GAME SPEED
- Fixed an issue where overall game speed is now increased and/or standardized to be consistent across all modes of play.
