Garry’s Mod’s September Update Is Scheduled for September 16 With Backward-Compatible Servers

The update is currently planned for 3:00 p.m. GMT, and players can test its changes through Garry's Mod's beta branches before release.

Garry’s Mod is scheduled to receive its September 2026 update on September 16 at 3:00 p.m. GMT. Facepunch says the update will remain backward compatible with existing servers, so server owners will not need to update immediately and players can continue joining older servers.

The developer recommends updating as soon as the release is available to access the new features and fixes. Facepunch shared the timing and testing details in its Steam announcement.

Garry’s Mod players can preview the changes now

A preview changelog is available, although its contents are still being worked on and may change before September 16. The Pre-Release beta branch contains the changes planned for the next update, while the Dev and x86-64 branches also include the upcoming changes.

Players who want to help find issues before release can briefly run the game or a development or test server on one of the beta branches. Facepunch asks testers to report problems through the official Garry’s Mod issue tracker, after searching to avoid duplicate reports. Dedicated server owners can use the dedicated server setup guide for beta branch installations.

How to switch Garry’s Mod beta branches

  1. Exit Garry’s Mod.

  2. Right-click Garry’s Mod in Steam and select Properties.

  3. Open the Betas tab and choose the branch you want to test.

None keeps the normal game version, Pre-Release provides the next update, and Dev is the less stable branch that may contain more bugs. The September update will remain optional to test before its planned September 16 release.
