Escape from Tarkov replaced the recurring Icebreaker fare with a special item requirement in Patch 1.1.5.0. Instead of paying 400,000 rubles, and later 700,000 rubles, for each transition, players can use a one-time Sudak-Tudak marine repair kit to board the hovercraft.
The first kit comes from Ragman’s Pay the Fare! task. Once the task is complete, another operational task becomes available for collecting more kits, giving players a repeatable way to keep accessing Icebreaker.
How to unlock Pay the Fare!
Ragman’s task becomes available after progressing far enough through the Boreas story chapter to unlock Icebreaker. The required items are:
- 1 Pipe Grip Wrench
- 1 Ratchet Wrench
- 1 Electric Drill
All 3 items can appear across Escape from Tarkov’s maps. Toolboxes and locked brown crates are good places to search, so keep an eye out for them instead of selling every tool immediately.
Pay the Fare! rewards
Hand the 3 tools to Ragman to finish the task and receive 30,000 experience. The reward also includes 10 Sudak-Tudak marine repair kits in PvE and 5 kits in PvP.
That difference makes the reward more generous in PvE, but either version gives players several Icebreaker trips before another task is needed. Completing Pay the Fare! also unlocks a special operational task that can provide more repair kits.
Where to use the Sudak-Tudak
Take a kit to the Icebreaker transit on Lighthouse or Shoreline. Patch 1.1.5.0 added the Lighthouse route alongside other changes detailed in the Escape from Tarkov 1.1.5.0 patch notes. Each transition consumes a kit, and the item weighs 4.5 kg.
Sudak-Tudak kits cannot be sold on the flea market or placed in a normal inventory slot. They use a special item slot, and players cannot take them from other players as loot, so completing Ragman’s task is the practical starting point for anyone who needs access to Icebreaker.
