Deadlock’s next major update now has a late September target

Valve developer Yoshi said ongoing playtesting and iteration pushed the team past its original target, while an earlier release remains possible but unlikely and players will get a few days' notice.

Deadlock‘s next major update is now aiming for late September, according to a timeline shared by Valve developer Yoshi in the game’s official Discord on August 28. Yoshi also warned that a release sooner than that is possible, but unlikely.

That puts the update weeks away rather than arriving next week, which Yoshi ruled out when asked directly. Valve had hoped to release the patch before the end of August, but the team is still working heavily on it. Deadlock also remains invite-only and has never followed a dependable update calendar, leaving this estimate as the clearest timing available to players.

Valve is still testing Deadlock’s next update

Seven months have passed since Old Gods, New Blood, the overhaul that added six more heroes to Deadlock. It also overhauled Patrons and introduced a new game mode. Valve created a dedicated page for Old Gods, New Blood and let players vote on which incoming heroes would arrive first.

Valve has continued to ship smaller balance passes during that wait, including the August 22 balance notes covering Celeste and two item changes.

Valve had previously described one broad content release alongside separate work for ranked play and items. The ranked mode update is already live, but Yoshi did not specify whether the late-September estimate applies to the item work, the larger content release, or both.

Yoshi said Valve held back on giving players a firm schedule until the team could tell whether the remaining work would take another week or two or longer. Repeated requests for a date had also begun to crowd out other conversations in the official Discord server.

The delay is not tied to added content or a larger plan. Yoshi said the update’s scope has stayed the same, while the regular playtesting and iteration process has taken longer than planned. If the team finishes sooner, Valve may release the update earlier, though Yoshi described that outcome as unlikely.

Valve will give players a heads-up when the release is only a few days away. Yoshi added that the team might otherwise “order a ton of pizza.” No precise launch date or full content breakdown has been announced, so late September remains the best timeline currently available.
