Core Keeper’s Latest Tease Hints at a New Way to Ride Underground

Core Keeper‘s newest underground journal entry is giving players a strong hint that creature riding could be coming to the underground. Notes From the Underground #7 – Yee-Haw! describes an unusually calm, toothy creature and an invention that fits it well enough to make the Explorer feel like a rancher.

The entry appeared in a new Steam announcement. Written from the Explorer’s perspective, it focuses on a dark, ruin-filled corner of the underground where patches of greenery have somehow survived. The area may look intimidating, but its local fauna turns out to be far more peaceful than its enormous teeth suggest.

One creature warms up to the Explorer quickly, creating the perfect chance to test the latest invention. The journal says there was some concern that the creation might need changes before it could be used on bipeds, but it fits the creature just fine. The rancher comment and the saddle shown in the artwork make the intended tease fairly clear, even though the entry stops short of officially naming a mount system.

Core Keeper’s broader Road to the Maw plan already places transportation at the center of Update 1.3, titled Riders of the Underground, which is planned for later in 2026. The journal does not directly connect this creature or invention to that update, so no release timing has been given for the feature hinted at here.
