GTA Online PvP Tips for Better Angles, Missile Counters, and Escapes

A Raiju can outrun homing and Kosatka cruise missiles, while Lester and Pavel invites offer a quick way out of danger.

GTA Online PvP often turns on angles and escape routes as much as firepower. A Raiju can outrun homing or Kosatka cruise missiles, and accepting a Lester or Pavel job invite can move you to an apartment or submarine when a fight goes sideways.

Aircraft fights reward altitude and timing

Against someone on foot, keep a weaponized plane above the target. Ground players cannot shoot straight up, so height can make it harder for them to return fire. Avenger turrets can also aim nearly straight upward, giving the aircraft a way to challenge planes overhead.

In an air-to-air fight, a Raiju can make a quick attack and pull away instead of committing to a dogfight. Avoid that approach against a plane with explosive cannons, which can punish a close pass. Aircraft also tend to turn more tightly at lower speeds. The Starling can use that to stay inside another plane’s turning circle, but activating its boost widens the turn.

Watch where vehicle missiles launch from, too. They tend to alternate sides, which can help with aiming a follow-up shot. A flare gun can redirect missiles, including those fired by a Chernobog. Many explosives can also be shot to detonate, from a sticky bomb in an opponent’s hand to an incoming Kosatka cruise missile.

Use ground weapons and RC vehicles deliberately

The Widowmaker and Minigun handle similarly, but their different angles have uses. The Widowmaker can aim slightly higher, which may help against a low-flying vehicle. The Minigun sits higher when held, making it easier to shoot over a wall. An EMP Launcher can force players out of RC vehicles, and those vehicles do not all fire from the same height. The Jubilee’s machine guns sit around body level.

For a quick Grenade Launcher burst, crouch behind a wall and spam-click. A separate rapid-fire input sequence works with weapons such as the RPG, Grenade Launcher, and Heavy Sniper: fire, tap the throwable-weapon keybind, switch back to the original weapon, then fire again. The sequence can be faster in first person.

Close-range positioning can also neutralize heavy vehicles. Tanks cannot shoot players standing directly beside them, especially along their sides. Shooting a parachute can spin a descending opponent, while a flare destroys the chute.

Plan an exit before the fight turns against you

The RC Nano Drone can draw police attention away from your character, creating an opening to get clear. Job invites from Lester or Pavel offer another escape, teleporting you to your apartment or Kosatka. First-person view also helps you move up and down stairs faster.

For protection, military helmets, including night-vision and thermal goggles, let you survive extra shots to the head. Heist heavy outfits reduce damage as well, but only during heists. During product sales, Lester’s off-radar ability does not conceal your product. Ghost Organization does.

Thermal goggles can be used with Kosatka cruise missiles, but you cannot turn them on or off while actively guiding one. Parking the Kosatka next to a yacht with its air defenses on can limit attackers’ options, and the Toreador can enter the submarine from underneath. One warning in the tips flags a bug that can cause some planes, including the B-11, to explode seconds after being summoned.
