The Division 2 Will Add Crossplay in November and Showcase Echoes of Central Park in September

The Gamescom panel also confirmed Red Horizon will launch on August 27 and offered an early look at Year 8 Season 4.

The Division 2 has a busy stretch ahead. Crossplay will arrive in November, Year 8 Season 3: Red Horizon will launch on August 27, and Ubisoft has announced a September showcase for the next expansion, Echoes of Central Park. Ubisoft laid out the plans in its Steam announcement after the first Gamescom panel.

Creative Director Yannick Banchereau and Game Director Alex Birzanu joined the presentation. It was the first part of the previously announced two-panel event, with the broader Gamescom panel schedule also including a meet-and-greet Q&A and a second panel on August 27.

Crossplay will arrive in November

After work that included a partial rebuild of the game’s online architecture, Crossplay will bring Agents from supported platforms into a shared matchmaking environment. The feature will be enabled by default when it launches, though players who want to remain within their own platform group can turn it off from the Character Selection screen.

With Crossplay active, players can meet and play with Agents from any supported platform where Crossplay is also enabled. Turning it off limits encounters to players on the same platform. Ubisoft said the larger player pool should help matchmaking and shorten queue times.

  • Every player will move to the Crossplay environment.
  • Crossplay will begin enabled by default.
  • Players can disable the feature from Character Selection.
  • Clans will support Agents from different platforms.
  • Clan capacity will increase from 50 to 100 members.
  • Leaderboards will reset, with Crossplay settings reflected in their displays.

Echoes of Central Park will take The Division 2 into darker territory

Ubisoft also revealed the name of The Division 2’s next expansion: Echoes of Central Park. Central Park has remained one of New York City’s major unexplored locations in the series, and its history makes it a grim setting for the next chapter. During the outbreak, the park was used as a mass burial ground. Years later, nobody knows what is still waiting behind its gates.

The expansion will begin with a distress call from somewhere inside Central Park. Rumors will spread through the Upper West Side, sending Agents to investigate before they eventually enter the park themselves. Ubisoft is presenting the expansion with a darker atmosphere, where fear may be as dangerous as the enemies that can be seen.

No release date for Echoes of Central Park was announced during the presentation.

Red Horizon will bring the Cleaners back to Washington, D.C.

Before Agents head toward Central Park, the Cleaners will return to Washington, D.C. in Red Horizon on August 27. After losing their supply of purple flame during the events of Battle for Brooklyn, the faction will search the capital for a new source. Cleaner activities, Elite Kill Squads, and other threats will spread across the city as the season continues.

Red Horizon will also introduce a new Modifier system built around the Pressure Gauge. Combat will build the gauge, while Active and Passive Modifiers will let players decide how to use it during a fight.

The Dark Zone is receiving two different changes. The Toxic PvE Dark Zone will become a permanent part of the game after community feedback, while Blackout will join the PvP rotation. Blackout removes the usual power restrictions, allowing Agents to bring their complete builds into the Dark Zone, including SHD Watch bonuses, Expertise, and Prototype Gear. Ubisoft’s full Red Horizon breakdown covers the rest of the season’s additions.

Season 4 will rework Prototype Gear and Escalations

Red Horizon is only the third season of Year 8. The panel offered an early look at Season 4, including the return of the Black Tusk and a hint that a possible “White Tusk” deployment could be next.

Prototype Gear will receive a broad redesign in Season 4. The goal is to give players more control over item progression and customization while reducing how heavily the system depends on random rolls. The changes will also affect Expertise and Augments, with new ways to fine-tune Prototype Gear.

Escalations will receive another round of changes as well. Red Horizon will stop players from losing Escalation tokens after a disconnect, and Season 4 will give Agents more control over both the challenge and rewards. Mutators will also become more consistent and predictable.

Echoes of Central Park showcase is scheduled for September 24

The dedicated Echoes of Central Park Showcase will take place on September 24 at 9 AM PT / 6 PM CEST. The presentation is billed as a World Gameplay Reveal and will provide a closer look at what awaits inside Central Park.

Until then, the immediate focus is Red Horizon, which will launch on August 27 before Crossplay arrives in November.
